Travellers Rest was the first residence of famous Nashville lawyer John Overton. He entertained friends here, most notably his former roommate Andrew Jackson.
The original portion of this home was completed in 1799, with several rooms added at various times until 1887. It is mostly designed like pre-Revolutionary dwellings in Virginia with some influence from Federal architectural concepts of the early 1800's.
The structure is located on Ferrell Parkway (off Franklin Road) in South Nashville and has been restored to much of its original grandeur as illustrated in this 1999 print which commemorated the 200th anniversary celebration for this distinguished house.
