Commuter rail service for the Nashville metropolitan area began on September 18, 2006.

The Music City Star system is managed by the Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee and financed with assistance of various government agencies in the service area.

The first leg of the planned six-point star rail system, is providing service at stations located in downtown Nashville (as pictured), Donelson, Hermitage, Mount Juliet, Martha (Highway 109) and Lebanon. The trains will utilize the tracks of the Nashville and Eastern Railways.
