A lasting image of the Opryland Hotel, the Magnolia Lobby entrance leads visitors into a vast room featuring fireplaces, a brass chandelier and the Grand Staircase. Carpeted and bricked hallways extend to 1,891 guest rooms, 20 retail shops, 10 restaurants and lounges, 74 break-out meeting rooms and two breathtaking indoor gardens.
The hotel, which opened in 1977, is a blend of colonial Williamsburg and Southern plantation architectural styles. Its indoor gardens, the Conservatory and the Cascades, feature thousands of tropical plants, winding walkways, rocky coves, flowing streams and waterfalls. Lobbies, hallways and meeting rooms are adorned with artwork and giant painted murals created by Tennessee artists. These features make the hotel one of the largest and most distinctive properties in the nation.
This 1992 painting of the Magnolia Lobby entrance was commissioned to help commemorate Anglo American Auto Auction's 10th anniversary and coincidentally, the hotel's 15th.
