For a century, this majestic landmark has stood overlooking downtown Nashville, Tennessee from its location on a hill at the south end of Sixteenth Avenue. Built in 1890, North Front was the first academic building erected on the park-like grounds of the Belle Monte estate. During its 100-year lifetime, the structure has housed an assembly hall, classrooms, dining rooms, reception areas, dormitory space and offices. The first radio station in Nashville, WDAA, sponsored by Ward-Belmont School, broadcast from the building in 1922.
A symbol of culture and academic pursuits, North Front has served as an integral part of three educational institutions: Belmont College, 1890-1913; Ward-Belomont School, 1913-1951; and Belmont College, 1951-present.
As depicted in this 1990 limited edition print, North Front was renovated in 1986 and named Freedom Hall, the historic building now serves as the main administration building of Belmont College.
