The Frist Center for the Visual Arts is located in Nashville on Broadway at Ninth Avenue and is a neighbor to Union Station. It was constructed in 1934 as the main United States Post Office and is the only remaining representation of an area building featuring "stripped classic" design and art-deco architectural features as depicted in this 1999 lithograph.
With the leadership and funding of the Frist Foundation and Metro Council the historic structure was renovated to accommodate traveling art exhibitions, study areas and other display spaces. The opening was in spring 2001. A post office facility remains on the lower floor.
