The Hermitage decorated with wreaths and garland for the holiday season, was built in 1818 for Andrew Jackson and his wife Rachel. Their famous home was completed prior to Jackson's election as seventh president of the United States. It was surrounded by many acres of farmland in what is now the Hermitage community of Nashville.
The house is architecturally classified as Early Victorian with Greek Revival and Colonial/Georgian features. The structure was built of red bricks, but painted white to cover up results of a serious fire. An extensive renovation was completed in 1989.
