Product Description

Doors usually represent the "personallity" of a structure. To illustrate this, in 1994 Phil Ponder produced a unique limited edition print which features several interesting doors of Nashville. The particular doors in his visual study were chosen because they are entrances to historic structures of the area, they are examples of various architectural styles and/or they are portals to important aspects of Nashville life.

The doors shown, left to right, are: Kirkland Hall (administration building for Vanderbuilt University - 1875), Savage House (now a bed-and-breakfast in downtown Nashville - 1852), the State Capitol of Tennessee (1853), Two Rivers Mansion (built by the McGavock family - 1859), McKendree Methodist Church (located on Church Street, parts of the structure date to the 1800's...the doors shown are on the front added in 1910), Belmont Mansion (constructed by the Acklen family, now on the campus of Belmont University - 1852), The Hermitage (home of President Andrew Jackson - 1819), a fascinating residence on Rutledge Hill (now an office building - 1890), U.S. Customs House (built by the federal government, now contains offices and courtrooms - 1883).
