PP Capitol (1984)

This 1984 limited edition print portrays the picturesque Capitol building of Tennessee. It is located on the most porminent hill in midtown Nashville...standing proud as a sturdy home for the state legistature, for the office of the Governor and for other important functions of Tennessee government.

The structure is rectangular in shape, 238 feet by 109 feet, which features Ionic columns on the central porticos and at the ends. The slim tower on the roof is topped by a "lantern", which adds beauty and dignity to the character of the Capitol.

Construction was started on July 4, 1845 but work on the ediface and terrace stretched out over a 14 year period. A major restoration was completed in 1960.

The famous architect for this building, William F. Strickland, has received much acclaim for this design, and this state Capitol is recognized as one of the best in the United States of America.
