Imagine that today you are standing on the corner of 9th and Hadley facing the east side of the Village toward the Cumberland River. To your left, the fire station is in the distance. To your right down a block is the Church of Christ. If you were standing in the same spot in 1918, this is what your view would look like. The large gap of land between houses was a fire break intended to prevent the spread of fire. Today, a garage sits on the land.
