DS Gator Aid (11x14)

Mr. Barry Guillot, science teacher at the Harry Hurst Middle School in Destrehan, Louisiana, asked me to come up with a composite design for his “Wetland Watchers” - a group of students who are working hard to restore an area of cypress swamp on the shores of Lake Ponchartrain. This drawing is based directly on suggestions provided by these kids, and has been widely used to raise awareness and funds to assist their service learning project. 

Gator Aid follows a New Orleans theme, including a Louisiana state flag, State Bird (Brown Pelican), Tree (Bald Cypress), Flower (Magnolia), and Amphibian (Green Tree Frog), with an Accordion, Clarinet, Drum, Guitar, Harmonica, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Violin, Beignets, Coffee, Chicory, Cattails, Cayenne Peppers, Celery, Garlic, Green Pepper, Okra, Onion, Po Boy, Pralines, Red Beans, Rice, Spices, Palmetto, Art, Comedy & Tragedy, Duck Call, Fleur de Lis, Fishing Net, Fishing Pole, Piroge, Football, Basketball, Hornets, Hurricane, Bourbon Street, French Quarter, Jackson, Jazz, Jester, 2-Lane, Geaux Tigers, Mardi Gras Mask, Beads, Coins, Computer, Dip Net, Gig, Gumbo Pot, Nature Trail, Estuary (S2ARY), Swamp Boat, Swim Goggles, Shrimp Boot, Skeeter Spray, Streetcar (Named Desire), T-Shirt, Alligator, Armadillo, Bass, Blue Crab, Blue Dog, Catfish, Corn Snake, Green Snake, Deer, Duck, Dragonflies, Heron, Egret, Ibis, Otter, Squirrel, Oyster, Raccoon, Swamp Rabbit, Snapping Turtle, Scallop, Shrimp, Water Meter, Bon Temps and a whole mess of MudBugs.
