Derrick Clifton

Derrick Clifton has been drawing since he was very young. A native of Dickson TN, he experimented with paints and pastels in his early years,
but always had a passion for charcoal and graphite. While attending college, a professor encouraged him to take a "pick something and do it well"
approach with his art.
Feeling very liberated by this, Derrick decided to develop his style by working exclusively with charcoal.
In 2005, while living in Colorado,he accepted a commission to draw something that he had always avoided,
the portrait of a face. Ironically, he has drawn mostly faces ever since. In 2006, he began drawing portraits for many clients that share his love
for intensely 'colorful' black and white art, and has displayed his portraits in public and private galleries
in the middle Tennessee area, including Picture This Custom Framing gallery.
